Hold Your Horses: Derby Party

Wyatt and I were excited to host a Kentucky Derby watch party this year.  We invited several friends to come over and hang out, eat, and watch the race!  I designed signage, drink labels, and candy bay labels based on some napkins I picked up at a local store a couple of months prior to the race.

Wyatt decided he wanted to serve our mint juleps in mason jars so I tied gingham ribbon in bows around each jar and added a pretty straw.  For decorations I spent some time looking online at other Derby parties.  I decided on making a centerpiece out of a silver bowl I found at a thrift store that reminded me of a trophy using artificial red roses.  I also found a little silver creamer dish that looked just like a miniature trophy at the thrift store and had to snag that for decor as well.  I picked up a couple of plastic toy horses from a craft store and cute some felt to attach to them.   I found an old postcard online of Churchill Downs for $1.00 and framed it.

We served Hot Browns, Pimento Cheese dip, Derby pie bars, chips and dip, cupcakes, kettle corn and pineapple.  Of course the signature drink of the day had to be mint juleps.
