Forecastle Festival 2015 Day 1

Last weekend was my 4th Forecastle Festival in Louisville.  I went to my first in 2010 with Allison and it has grown so much since then.  The festival is held in Riverfront Park on the Ohio River and it is so much fun.  While the Midwest has been full of rain and mild summer temps this year, it was sweltering hot over the weekend. The heat indexes hovered around 105 degrees each day of the festival thanks to the humidity. So.much.sweat.

Wyatt and I stopped for lunch with his grandma in Jeffersonville on our way down on Friday.  I just love our visits with her.  We went across to Louisville and checked into our hotel, relaxed for a few more minutes of air conditioning, (I) changed, and we got ready to head over to the festival.  We always stay about three blocks away from the park so we can just walk over.  We saw Cold War Kids first. And what a great set to kick off our festival weekend!

After their set, we wandered around the festival a bit and got our Bourbon Lodge mugs (that granted us access to the Bourbon Lodge).  Then we caught the San Fermin set on the Port Stage.  It was a small stage and there were not a ton of people.  We ended up in the third row by the last part of their set.  They were so fun.

After their set, we grabbed dinner.  I had the best lobster roll and lobster bisque from the Longshot Lobstah food truck that was there in the Kentucky Landing area of the festival.  That area has several local vendors and food trucks. Wyatt had a grilled cheese from the Lil Cheezers food truck.

After dinner we saw Alvvays.  We were originally a little bummed we were going to miss them as their original time slot was early afternoon when we were at lunch and visiting with Wyatt's grandma.  Luckily for us the airline lost their luggage (re: their equipment) so they were unable to go on in their original time slot.

After Alvvays we got to see a couple of songs by Houndmouth and then we went to the main stage to get ready for Sam Smith!  It was Sam Smith's first concert back after undergoing vocal chord surgery earlier in the year.  It was also his first festival headlining spot.  Due to being in the middle of the crowd up front and the heat, I started feeling a little worse for the wear and asked if we could go fill up my water and take a breather in the back.  When we were in the back the winds started really picking up (like 40 mph) and they ended up evacuating the venue.  The wind was crazy but we made the short walk back to our hotel and managed to get inside before any lightening and rain.
