Junior League: Provisional History Tour

The Summer Provisional class took a history tour of Indianapolis recently to learn of some of the history associated with the League and where some of our major impacts have been.  We met up at the JLI offices and then piled onto a bus for our tour. We had four stops on our tour.  We started at the Schnull-Rauch House.  It is currently owned by the Indianapolis Children's Museum, but was home to JLI for 30 years!  We got to tour the house and learn more about the family that built it.

Our next stop on the tour was Garfield Park.  The President of Friends of Garfield Park gave us a walking tour with indepth information about the park. After our tour, we had lunch outside at the park before getting back on the bus and driving to Riley Children's Hospital.

Kelli, me, and our mentor, Anica

It was my first time to visit the hospital that I have heard so much about over the years.  JLI was instrumental in starting the occupational therapy program and still rewards grants to them to this day.

Our fourth and final stop of the day was the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  The members of the League helped start the museum's docent program in 1945.  As an added bonus my group's tour guide is a Sustainer!

I had the best day! It was great to get to know some of the other ladies in my mentor group and to get some time with a few of the Actives.
