My intern at work turned the big 1-8 this week. We're doing a carry in lunch for her birthday tomorrow, but I wanted to do a little something special on her actual birthday. I got her this giant cupcake (this thing was huge!) and made her one of my birthday parties in a box to go along with her gift. The box is complete with a banner, candles, glitter pills, lollipops, fancy paper straws, and balloons. I love how it turned out.

#bestiebox
June 12, 2014
I came across the
hashtag #bestibox one day on Instagram and was curious. I clicked on it
because based on the picture I saw, I had to know more. The picture I
first saw it on was a wonderful little care packaged the person had received.
Upon further digging, it seems there are some people who do monthly
bestie boxes similar to any of those other popular monthly box subscriptions.
BFFs who are separated by miles put together care packages and send them
on their way to the bestie. Who better to pick out an assortment of
random items than your best friend?
Most of my best
friends are just an hour down the road so I am not sure this would carry quite
the same significance to those separated by hundreds of miles, but I still
think it would be so fun to put together a box for my bestie(s). And who
doesn't love getting packages in the mail?
I have all sorts of
ideas for a couple of my best friends that would make doing this pretty fun!
I do however think, that perhaps scaling back from monthly to every other
month or each holiday would make it easier to prepare and put together
something great each time. In the meantime, I created Birthday In A Box
for my mom and for my sister as I will not be with them on their birthdays.
I had fun creating the boxes. Target does it again. I hit up
the gift wrapping, party supply, and dollar bins to help create coherent boxes
and added in a few more extras.
I also utilized this
idea recently to send a birthday gift to one of my favorite people. I
took quotes from her favorite movies/people and turned them into gifts. I
made a 'Shopping Survival Kit' with inspiration from Phyllis Nefler, Cher
Horowitz, Holly Golightly and Mindy Kaling.
I cannot wait to
assemble my next box.
