National Lobster Day

Today is apparently National Lobster Day.  Who knew?! All these posts are making me wish I could get a decent lobster roll here.  It sounds so good!   In honor of National Lobster Day, Lilly Pulitzer released it's summer pop-up, an update to the favorite Lobstah Roll print! On the Go: Packing for a Music Festival on the Beach

Wyatt and I are headed down to Gulf Shores for Hangout Fest this weekend and we are so excited to experience a new music festival together down on the beach!  Wyatt gifted me the festival tickets for Christmas.  We're staying in a condo on the beach and I can't wait to dig my toes into the sand and see some good music live!  Being the planner and packer that I am, I've been thinking about what to take for the last month or two.  Here are some of my top picks for what to pack for the beach music festival.

I am packing lots of lightweight pieces and a lot of sunscreen.  The forecast right now is calling for some rain/scattered storms.  Crossing my fingers for the best luck and only storms in the mornings, if at all.  It will be an adventure, I am sure.

Workin' On My Fitness

I have been trying to be healthier this year.  Part of that is working out and getting into better physical shape.  I am miles away from where I would like to be but I am improving each week.  I have utilized a few of things to help make this happen.  

Workout Buddy | I have began working out a couple times a week with a coworker.  We work out immediately following work.  It is harder to make excuses to get out of working out if you are doing it with someone.  

Comfortable Gym Setting | One of the biggest things for me is finding a gym in which I feel comfortable.  Right now, I am utilizing the Wellness Center at my work.  It's free to me as an employee and it's right there at the end of the day.  Full disclosure: sometimes the fact that it's just across campus is a negative when I just need to get away from work but so far that hasn't been too much of a hindrance.  If you aren't comfortable with your gym then you will find a reason not to go.  Be sure that the staff, the equipment, and the clientele 

Routine | I have found a routine that works best for me is mixing it up some.  I do a few days of cardio at the gym and a few days of at home workouts.  For my home workouts, I have been using Kayla Itsines's app Sweat.  I also mix it up with a few other at home workouts from time to time.  Now that the weather is more consistently warm, I'd like to add in some more time outdoors too.

Internal and External Motivation | It helps that I want to feel and look healthier.  I feel better when I am more active.  This past fall and winter I noticed that I became somewhat sluggish and preferred to stay in and read than to go do things. The first step always have to come from within and you have to want it.  There are other things that motivate me though.  Wyatt has been very supportive and encouraging of me throughout my journey thus far. My coworker that I workout with has also been encouraging.  

There are so many fun options in workout apparel and accessories these days.  I've picked out some of my favorite below. I wear my Kate Spade Activity Tracker daily and use my Lilly Pulitzer + Starbucks Swell bottle when I'm at the gym.  I am also linking to my favorite Pandora station for workouts and an old playlist of mine that I love for the gym.

Lilly Pulitzer New Arrivals!

Y'all the Lilly Pulitzer new arrivals are everything!  I am in love with so many of the great pieces in the Spring Break Sunseekers collection.  I picked out my favorites below.  As you might notice, I'm totally digging the Toucan Green Coco Loco print.  Give me everything in it.  So many fun details and, as always, bright and cheery colors and prints to send us into spring and summer! Currently Loving: Ruffles and Bell Sleeves

I love the style trends happening right now with ruffles and interesting sleeves!  I can't get enough of the romantic sleeves and frills.  I've picked up a few tops that fall in line with these trends, like this one I shared a couple weeks ago.  I picked a few of my favorites that I've been seeing online and by my favorite brands.

Banana Republic Flutter Sleeve Top

I picked this top up in pink stripes on my birthday when we were shopping on King Street.  I am majorly crushing on this top and wish I could wear it every day.  I love the sleeves.  I am obsessed with the trend of ruffles and bell sleeves.  I think they are just so fun as we transition into spring and summer.

Kate Spade Winter Accessories

Brrr....it's officially winter (at least it feels like it).  The high today is 11 and the high on Sunday here is a whopping 5 degrees with a -5 degree low.  Don't mind me while I bundle up in all the layers.  I love, love, love Kate Spade.  They're bright and fun take on life is just great.  Who doesn't need a little cheer in their life during the cold and dreary winter months?  I know I sure do.   These cold weather accessories would make excellent holiday gifts and stocking stuffers!

Holiday Outfit Inspiration

With the holiday season here, it's time to think about outfits for all those holiday occasions you'll be invited to in the next few weeks.  I already have mine all planned or in the works.  Here are some outfit inspirations for your different occasions.  Now, who is ready for a holiday party or two?

Work

I am loving festive plaid skirts this season.  My work holiday party is at the end of an afternoon during what would normally be normal work hours so it's not something that I dress up for much but I still love to be a little festive. This plaid skirt would be perfect for that!

Casual

Growing up in rural southern Indiana, my family doesn't get dressed up much for holidays.  Casual is always the best approach.  What better way to show up than in something that's cute, casual, and comfy?!

Dressy

Whether it's a holiday party, a fancy night out with friends to celebrate the season, or a date night at the Nutcracker, here are some ideas for a dressier outfit.  I am loving red and bright pink together.  Kate Spade is the best at this color combination.  I have found some fun red skirts and a few hot pink pieces with gold and black accessories.  I'm dreaming of making plans in which I can put together one of these outfits this year!

Girls Night

Who doesn't want to get all dolled up and have a night out with the girls celebrating the holidays? Here are some fun and flirty outfit ideas for drinks with the girls or a girls night with dinner and a show.

Now that I have the outfit inspirations, I'm ready to celebrate in style in the coming weeks. I cannot wait to attend Christmas parties and events with friends and family!

Gift Guides

It's that time of year again!  Gift guides are starting to come out from my favorite retailers and bloggers preparing for the holiday season.  I may have slipped down the rabbit hole over the weekend and shopped for Christmas decor.  Let me just say, I am totally ready for Christmas everything.  While I still love and cherish Thanksgiving, I am just ready for Christmas and the magic that comes with the holiday.  Because of when we visited Charleston last December, I didn't have the time to decorate and do some of my favorite holiday traditions.  This year, my trip to Charleston is earlier so I should be able to do more, but we are moving two weeks before Christmas so we'll still be on a shortened schedule.  In the meantime, I'll just be lusting over all the gift guides that are out already.  I picked a few items from my favorite gift guides below.

Favorite Tights for Fall & Winter

I have a love hate relationship with tights and hosiery.  I love wearing dresses and skirts in the fall and winter to work but seem to have terrible luck with hosiery.  I can put on a brand new pair and have a run in them before lunch.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Last year I picked up a pair of Kate Spade black tights and I don't think I'll ever go back to other brands.  Not only are they insanely comfortable, but they are still going strong without any visible wear.  Considering the rate at which I was purchasing different brands, the price point is very reasonable as I'm heading into a second year of wearability.

I also love Kate Spade socks! I got some last year on a whim to wear with my boots and was a little weary upon first putting them on because they seemed to thin to be comfortable but they felt great! I now have an array of tall, ankle, and no show socks.  I definitely recommend trying those too!

Fashion Friday: Fall Favorites

One of my favorite trends now is the mixing of seemingly casual pieces with more glam pieces.  I paired this boyfriend plaid shirt with a faux fur vest and a rhinestone necklace for a fun look last weekend.

After Party Sale!

Lilly Pulitzer only has two online sales a year and yesterday was the start to one of those sales!  I felt like the selection for this sale was better than the last and the queue lines seemed to move pretty quickly today!  The sale runs through tomorrow so be sure to head over and check out the amazing deals!

I managed to snag two dresses this sale. I've been in love with the Southern Charm print since it came out but have never been able to get my hands on anything in the print so I am so excited to get the Cathy Shift in Southern Charm!

I've almost bought this Marlowe dress twice so I was thrilled to see it as part of the sale for only $39!

Fashion Friday: What I Wore

I packed a lot of red, white, and blue for last weekend's holiday getaway to Michigan.  This trip was a good example of when my trademark over packing came in handy.  I wore at least two outfits every day except for the day we traveled home (but I wore three on the 4th).  I took a few cute dresses for nice dinners, a couple of warmer options for cool summer nights, and of course a few pairs of shorts for the warm days.  I threw in a couple of scarves and a couple of hats for times outdoors in the sun or cool nights.

I wore a lightweight dress from Old Navy with a khaki linen jacket for the 6 hour drive to Detroit since it was so comfortable.

I changed into this fun gingham dress and wedges for dinner and felt refreshed.

 It was pretty warm during the day on Sunday so I opted for a pair of my favorite Lilly Pulitzer shorts and a light and flowy top.  I went with a pair of white jeans, a gingham pelpum spaghetti strap top, a lightweight scarf, and a lightweight linen jacket for the concert that night since it was outdoors.

For the 4th of July, I chose this fun button down for the ride up to Traverse City. It's one of those shirts you just have to wear on the 4th, right?  I paired it with a pair of navy Lilly callahans and navy VV flip flops.

 I changed into this seersucker shift and added a red bow to keep it festive for our dinner date on the 4th of July.  This dress has been my favorite find for this summer!  After dinner we ran back and I changed into jeans and lightweight summer sweater in white and added a blue and red nautical themed scarf to complete my outfit for the chilly night.

For our last day and another 6 hour drive to get home, I chose comfortable jeans, a loose tank, and this monogrammed ball cap.

Fashion Friday: 4th of July

We're hitting the road and heading out of town for a mini vacation over the holiday weekend.  I'm packing all my patriotic colors.  I have a surprising amount of blues and whites.  I'm taking a couple of different hats, white dresses, and even a patriotic koozie.  If you are looking for a bit of last minute inspiration, I put together some of my favorites below.

Fashion Friday: Gameday Ready

Fall is here in full force and you know what that means? Football season is upon us.  I was born and raised in Indiana where we eat, breathe, and sleep basketball.  We don't take our football as seriously as the SEC states, but we still have fun.  Wyatt and I are going to my alma mater's Homecoming next weekend (Go Hoosiers!) and I couldn't be more excited.
