So you have your vision and your venue, now you need to pick colors. I feel like so many people ask about if you have a date set, a venue, and what your colors are. I guess it makes sense because so many of the decisions about details revolve around what your wedding colors are going to be. As I mentioned in previous Wedding Wednesday posts, we didn't really have a vision going into this so we had the rainbow to choose from. After collecting images for my vision board, I realized a consistent color theme in light, dusty blues. The overall look is soft and relaxing and I just fell in love with it. Luckily for me Wyatt approved! The vision I have is with soft blues and a lot of greenery and white flowers so we're probably going to use those as accent colors. We might throw in gold as an accent too. If you've got a vision but still aren't set on a color palette for your big day here are some tips that might help you choose some colors!
Get inspired by your venue
If you have your venue locked down already, use the setting to inspire you. Envision your day in the venue. What does your attire look like, what flowers are you holding, what centerpieces do you have at the reception, etc.
Keep your priorities in mind
Think back to your priorities you identified already. If you have your heart set on including roses from your grandma's red rose bush in your big day, use that as your starting point to create your color palette instead of trying to work those red roses into a green and blue color scheme later.
Look at what you love
Look around at the colors that inspire your home decor. These are colors you already know you can live with a long time. Open your closet. If there a color you are clearly drawn to and have an entire section of in your closet? You can use these as a starting point to create your color scheme for your wedding.
Do your research
Check out all the wedding magazines and see what you like and don't like. Think about friends' weddings and the ones that stood out. Look online at blogs and wedding sites. Is there a color or colors that you keep coming back to throughout your research? If there is take that as a good starting point!
Think seasonally
Like wardrobes, wedding color palettes can be inspired by the time of year as well. So you're having a fall wedding, maybe warm reds and oranges. With this in mind, don't shy away from colors you love just because of seasonal color rules.
Set the mood
Colors can help create a vibe for your wedding day. If you are going high drama black and rich, vibrant colors would be a better choice than pastels. Think about what atmosphere you want to create and what colors will help you achieve that.
Don't overthink it
Don't get too caught up in the idea that you have to have a strict color palette. Select some colors and use them as guidance, not a rule. Not every part of your wedding has to match perfectly to the other parts.
