Curly Sue: an Amanda Condra Designs Blog: lecture

Last night, Wyatt and I once again took advantage of living so close to a university. We went to a lecture by Ken Burns as part of the Purdue Series on Corporate Citizenship and Ethics. Last year we attended a lecture in this series by Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. Both of us are fascinated with history, Wyatt more so than me, so we were thrilled to find out the Ken Burns would be visiting. His lecture incorporated elements mostly from his trilogy of documentaries, The Civil War, Baseball, and Jazz as a way to understand our commonalities and to present the opportunity to reflect on the nation, our achievements, our failures, and ultimately ourselves. As he put it, his documentaries offer, not just the top down or the bottom up tales of our history, but a more realistic and relatable history meant to make us think and connect in a way we wouldn't give just top down or bottom up recollections.

After the lecture, Wyatt and I grabbed a quick bite to eat on campus. The weather ended up being absolutely perfect last night. After a rather hot day, it cooled off and was quite pleasant.

Last night Wyatt and I took advantage of living in Lafayette and attended a lecture at Purdue. We went to a Purdue Series on Corporate Citizenship and Ethics that featured Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. Before heading over to Purdue, we had a quick dinner at Dog N Suds! It was so nice yesterday that I wanted to enjoy something spring/summer-like.

After dinner, we drove over to campus and went into the lecture at Loeb Playhouse. It was quite interesting to hear him speak about Wikipedia. We really enjoyed the event. After the lecture we stopped at Greyhouse Coffee Shop for some gelato. I got the creme de minthe chip. It was amazingly good!
