Washington, DC: Part 1

It was EARLY!

DCA
My parents and I were only in DC for a long weekend but I still have the need to divide this up into a three (or four) post series.  Like many of the museums in DC, there is just way too much to absorb and post in one post.

We caught an early flight to DC and arrived at the airport right on time at about 8:30 a.m.  We first went to our hotel in Arlington and dropped off our bags and then we embarked on a full day of sight seeing and adventures!  Our first stop was a quick walk about in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. We saw our first of two exhibits that contained pieces of the Berlin Wall there.

We walked from there down Pennsylvania Avenue and toured the Newseum.  We had never been there. There is so much to take in and see in this building.  My favorite exhibits were the Berlin Wall and the World Trade Center but the best part of the museum is the terrace on the top floor that gives you the most amazing views.  They also have this exhibit with today's front page from newspapers in each state.  By coincidence, the Indiana front page was from the Journal and Courier (my local paper).

9/11 Exhibit including including the media antenna from the World Trade Center

We walked around a bit and grabbed some lunch before taking the metro to the Pentagon to see the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.  It was moving to have seen the media antenna from the top of the World Trade Center in the morning and then follow it up with the memorial for the Pentagon.

After the Pentagon, we took the metro to Old Town in Alexandria.  It's such a quaint neighborhood.  I loved it!  Of course, it didn't hurt that it also has the Pink Palm, a Lilly Pulitzer store.

We went back to Arlington where we had dinner at Ireland's Four Courts.  It reminded me a lot of 9 Irish.  It was delicious.  It was safe to say that I was exhausted beyond belief when we settled in for the night.
