Halloween Bar Cart

I got out our Halloween decor the other day and updated our bar car for the first time in a long while.  Next up will be Christmas bar cart in a couple months!

Union 50 and Jack-O-Lanterns

We recently went down to Indy to have dinner and carve pumpkins with a couple of our friends.  We had dinner at Union 50 in the Mass Ave neighborhood. We started out the evening with the Chef's Choice Grand Board. It was SO good! I love a great cheese board.  For dinner I ordered a salad so I could also get some of their fries! They have four styles of fries to choose from and five sauces! I got the duck fat and rosemary fries with beer cheese and the garlic-truffle aioli! It was all delicious and the atmosphere in there was great! I am looking forward to going back some time!

After dinner we went back to Connie and Patrick's apartment to carve pumpkins and roast marshmallows! Zero loved getting to lick off our pumpkins when we were done carving!

Happy Halloween!

I'm wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween!  Here's some pictures from years past.  There are all kinds of tutorials on Pinterest for great makeup to go along with any costume.  You can find so many different sugar skull tutorials and pop art makeup tutorials.  We'll be helping hand out candy over at Wyatt's Pa's house tonight.  I can't wait to see all his neighborhood's kids all dressed up!

Pinterest Finds: Halloween

Halloween is just a week away!  I have been getting in the spooky spirit around the apartment.  I love decorating for Halloween!  Last year we went to Indianapolis to celebrate with our friends and in 2014 I went to Chicago to go to a concert with my best friend, Amanda.  This year we don't have any plans to go celebrate with friends because we get the honor of celebrating our friends as they get married on Saturday afternoon.  Even though we can't dress up or go all out with treats, I manged to get a few things up and out in the apartment.

I found both prints for free via Pinterest!  Today I'm sharing some of my favorite Pinterest finds for Halloween!  Find these pins and more over on my Holiday Pinterest board.

1. Hocus Pocus themed prints |  I found both the prints above from Pinterest.  I did change the colors of the Sarah Sanderson print to match my decor better. It's a pin from Babble.  The other Hocus Pocus inspired print is from Dawn Nicole Designs and can be found here.  There are a set of three free printables in the Dawn Nicole Designs freebie for you to choose from.

2. Skeleton Cupcakes | These are adorable.  Who would have thought to use a marshmallow, covered pretzels, and an edible food marker to create these fun skeleton cupcakes?

3. Chalkboard Painted Pumpkins | This is an adorable twist on pumpkins.  Chalkboards are all the rage and this is super easy.  Just spray pain the pumpkins black and use white paint to achieve the chalkboard look.  Or you could go a step further and use chalkboard paint and chalk in your message!

4. Hocus Pocus Smores Pops | You may be noticing a theme here.  I LOVE Hocus Pocus.  When I saw this tutorial, I instantly fell in love.  They are so creative and sound delicious! Who doesn't like smores?

5. Homemade Ghost |  This tutorial uses a wire, a soda bottle and a ball as a base to drape cheese cloth over to create the form of a ghost.  Once you're satisfied, simply spray with starch.  Once the shape has dried, adhere some eyes and you have yourself a ghost!

Halloween

Wyatt and I spent Halloween night in Indianapolis celebrating with Heath and Kathleen.  As you can see, I attempted sugar skull makeup and Wyatt did his best Hunter S Thompson from Fear and Loathing.  We had dinner and drinks at the Sinking Ship before going to the Red Key Tavern.  Before heading back to Lafayette, we grabbed a quick brunch at the Aristocrat.  It was a great quick trip to Indy.  I really enjoy the Sobro neighborhood.  I can't wait to get back down there and explore some more.

It's Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Fact: I have watched Hocus Pocus twice already this year. In keeping with the spirit I decided to decorate for Halloween this year!  I put together this wreath with items I purchased at Michael's.  I went with the skull theme because I liked it best.  We carved pumpkins with friends last weekend. Ours is patiently waiting on our balcony until Halloween.

As of now we have no plans to dress up for Halloween, but I have been eyeing some things as options in the event that we do dress up.  So far sugar skull is in the lead.  I will report back if that happens.

Chicago Halloween = Best Halloween

For Halloween, I went to Chicago to visit one of my favorites from college, Amanda!  II had not seen her for four years but we talk almost daily in some form or the other.  It was like we'd seen each other yesterday.  After doubling my commute time due to white out snow and heavy winds, I finally made it to Amanda's apartment!  Lake Shore Drive was closed because the winds were so bad there was 10 foot surf on the lake and water was spilling across the road.  We went to see Andrew McMahon In the Wilderness with one of Amanda's friends, Rachel! (Fact: We became friends at IU because of our love for Andrew McMahon's music.  Fact: I've only seen him in concert with her.)

He played at the Vic Theater.  Amanda was able to score us passes to meet Andrew after the show.  Not only did we meet him, we got to hang out with him and the band in the dressing room.  It was, without a doubt, one of the best experiences ever.  Andrew was extremely nice(I'm not exaggerating, if anything it's not doing him justice). He got us girls some beers, offered us food, and was just genuinely nice and had great conversation.  It just does the soul good to have experiences like that.  Here is a guy who I have admired since I was in Jr. High (that does make me feel a tad bit old) and he went above and beyond for his fans.  So cool.

Also. it was Halloween so we all dressed up for the show. After we left the venue on cloud nine, we stopped by house party for a little while before getting something to eat at a diner near the girls' apartments.  We crashed early for the night.  The next morning Amanda and I got up and got donuts at Firecakes, walked over to the Bean and wandered around Grant Park for a bit before going back to her apartment to hang out.  We ended up walking over to get Portillos and having a Gilmore Girls marathon before I left that afternoon.  It was so much fun to see her and hang out in the Windy City for a night/day.
