Music Monday: My Picks for 2019

I can't believe the year is almost over! It was another year filled with concerts! We made it to 15 shows in Indiana, Kentucky (across the river from Cincy, OH), Wisconsin, and Illinois. We saw concerts in small venues/bars and we saw concerts in arenas.  We saw Andrew McMahon (I saw him twice because this was a major part of my Bachelorette!), Jeff Tweedy, Bigfoot Yancey, the National and Courtney Barnett, Dave Matthews Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gary Clark Jr, John Butler Trio, John Mayer, the Raconteurs, Soccer Mommy, Greensky Bluegrass, Angel Olsen, and Jon McLaughlin (with special guests Dave Barnes and Matt Wertz)! We already have tickets to see Caamp and Courtney Barnett in 2020 and can't wait!

My favorite show is a tie between the two Andrew McMahon concerts! It was so fun to go to the one during my Bachelorette with my best friends and sister.  Amanda also worked her magic and we met him after the show (the third time we've met him together!).  The second time I saw him with Wyatt and it was part of a day long festival to promote the merchants of a town outside of Cincinnati.  The proceeds went to a new cancer hospital in the area and it felt like more of an intimate setting.  I got to sing and dance with him under a couple times when he made his way into the crowd and we were pretty close to the stage! He said some words that hit home about cancer and loving and supporting someone with cancer and it was truly just a magical night.

My favorite song performed.....is difficult to choose.  There were so many great songs throughout the year but I think my favorite was seeing Gary Clark Jr cover "Come Together" by the Beatles.  It was just such a great cover and he had such great energy to close out the night and end the encore!

My favorite venue that we visited for the year was hands down the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville! The Raconteurs show there was such an experience.  That venue is historic and so well known.  We had amazing seats in the balcony that made us feel like we were right at the stage! We highly recommend catching a show in this venue one day if you get the chance!

There was also A LOT of great music released this year! Here are some of my favorite album releases from the year (in alphabetical order).

Angel Olsen - All Mirrors

Better Oblivion Community Center - Self titled

Bon Iver - i,i

Caamp - By & By

Gary Clark Jr - This Land

Jenny Lewis - On the Line

Lizzo - Cuz I Love You

Vampire Weekend - Father of the Bride
