Friday Five

Happy Friday! Not a lot going on to report on these days. We've been quarantining since March and are just not starting to do a little more. I have still only seen a handful of people since March 20th, besides the employees and shoppers at the grocery. We are planning to see my family for the first time since February this weekend and I couldn't be more excited!  Since we are not traveling, going to concerts, gathering with friends, etc., I figured I would share a Friday Five post.

Playlists

Since we've been stuck at home, I have made a lot of playlists on my Spotify. I am so in love with my Summer 2020 playlist.

Bathroom Renovation

We have been planning to do a master bathroom renovation for a year and we are finally almost ready to start! We are so excited. We picked out and ordered all the tile for our shower and bathroom floor last weekend. I cannot wait to start this process and watch it all come together. I will be sure to share more as we get into the project and complete it. 

Junior League of Indianapolis

I am so grateful for the women I have met and get to work alongside in the JLI. Things have obviously not been normal for our League operations since March. I was so glad to have participated in a Saturday training just before quarantine took effect and in-person events were cancelled.  We quickly moved to virtual meetings and I cannot tell you how great it has been to keep some normalcy to life by having some of these routine meetings.  I'm serving two placements this League year - the first year of a two year placement on our 100th Committee as the Communications Sub-Chair and also serving in the capacity of Digital Committee Chair again this year.  I'm proud of our ability to pivot and continue to serve in meaningful ways. 

Black Lives Matter

A lot is happening in the country right now. As a white woman, I understand that alone means I am privileged.  Right now we are asking ourselves critical questions as we look to truly educate ourselves better and advocate harder for the necessary changes that we must see in our country.  The Black community needs us to finally step up and do the work we should have been doing hundreds of years ago.  

I have been so gracious that many Black individuals are willing to take time to help us white people connect with the resources to educate ourselves. I have been doing some research and listening to what the Black community has to say while I await some back-ordered books to become available again from local shops instead of Amazon. We cannot let this movement pass us by yet again.  As white people we need to grow and work hard to hold our elected officials accountable and ensure that they help create the change we so desperately need in our country.

PRIDE

It's June and with June comes PRIDE month and celebrating. I'm so sad that the pandemic makes celebrating love in the usual fashion of festivals, parades, and events not possible.  Love is love and we need more of that in the world these days.  There aren't any in-person PRIDE events but there are some virtual and I plan to join in on some.  I just purchased this new shirt just in time for PRIDE month.

Friday Five: Around Our House


For this week's Friday Five, I'm sharing five things I'm loving around our house right now.  We have lived in a house and not an apartment for a year and half.  I don't share a lot of things about our house other than random seasonal decor.  I thought I'd share a few things I'm really enjoying in our house right now.

1. Eucalyptus Pillow Spray


I recently picked up a bottle of this pillow spray from TJ Maxx and I'm obsessed.  It smells so good and it really helps add to the relaxing environment in our bedroom.  Does anyone else love TJ Maxx for items like this as much as me?!

2. Ginger Jars


I moved around some of our ginger jars and rearranged the chest in what is now our guest room.  When we first moved in to the house, we used this as our bedroom.  We painted an accent wall navy, hung ginger jar prints, a mirror, and new curtains to make it our own.  I even updated the drawer knobs on the chest to match our décor.  After I found the prints that we hung in there, I began looking at local antique and flea markets for ginger jars and picked up several blue and white pieces for relative cheap! I have the urge to start looking for more again! These pieces are just so pretty! Here's what the room looks like now vs what it looked like last year (before we added a small tv I got for my birthday).






3. Souvenir Plate Collection/Front Entry


I started collecting souvenir plates several years ago. Last fall I hung some of them on the wall in our front entry hall above on of my favorite pieces of furniture in the house! The chest and the gorgeous lamp were pieces we acquired when we moved in to the house that had been Wyatt's grandfather's.  I love the idea of the souvenir plates because of all the traveling I have done over the years.  I like look in antique, thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales for new plates.  I try to make sure they are places I have been, and most recently I've focused on places that have meaning to both me and Wyatt.  The wall is outfitted in with several places we have traveled to together like San Francisco and California, Niagara Falls, Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia together.  And we obviously spend a lot of time in Indianapolis.  The shells in the glass dish on the chest are all from our trips and almost all from Folly Beach, South Carolina. I had a kitchy little family portrait of us done last year that we have on display in the entry as well.



4. DW Home Candles


I found DW Home candles at TJ Maxx and love them! We don't burn candles all that often but I have three or four of this brand now.  I just picked up a double wicked peony scented candle by the brand for our bedroom! I have this fresh gardenia scent in the bathroom.  I like to burn it in the guest bathroom before company comes over and it makes the whole front end of our house smell like the prettiest garden! I didn't see any online at TJ Maxx but Francesca's has some available online.  I linked them below.




5. Outdoor areas


I love our yard and front door.  We just had the door installed during the winter and will paint it once we get a storm door AND decide what color we are going to paint it! Ha.  Still trying to decide what color trim/shutters we want before we decide what color front door to have!  I love my fern that I have at the front door. I'm notorious for killing flowers/plants so I decided to go with a fern for this rather shaded little front step.  Wyatt keeps our lawn looking so great and works hard in our garden and with the roses and peonies we have on the side of the house.  I planted new tulips last fall to go with the existing tulips and daffodils.  I just love pulling in the driveway and seeing Sox sitting in the front window keeping an eye on the neighborhood! I love our little house and I'm looking forward to decorating for the 4th this weekend!

Friday Five: Instagrammers I'm Currently Loving

I decided I want to start occasionally posting a Friday Five.  This week I'm sharing 5 Instagram accounts I am currently loving. These are ladies whom I regularly check up on while on the app.  They all have great content and the best Instagram stories!

@carly

I have been following Carly for years and have loved how much her Instagram stories allow you to see the person behind the blogger.  She is one of my absolute favorite bloggers and one of the few whom I still follow along via the blog and not just on Instagram.  Since I've been following Carly since she was in college, I've seen her grow into this amazingly, strong young woman entrepreneur.  I love that she takes time to respond to messages and emails you send her.  She has great style sense and I always love watching what she's doing next.

I am obsessed with Riley's work and I love her Instagram.  Her watercolor prints and custom work are my favorite. I bought this print from her of the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC for me and one for my parents after our recent trip.  Riley is so talented and makes it seem so effortless. And who wouldn't love her little puffball of a dog, Stevie? Stevie is just adorable.

I love Emily and her shop! Emily seems like such a sweet and fun lady to be around.  She has the cutest family and I always enjoy following along with her life.  You can see a lot of things related to her shop and products she carries through her home decor, parties, etc.  She has a grace about her that is refreshing to see.  She's an inspiration as a strong woman business owner who is also very dedicated to her family.  



I started following Liz a couple of years ago and have loved watching her evolve as she's become a mother.  If you aren't taking the time to watch her stories then you are missing out.  Liz is so fun! She gives you true glimpses into her life, motherhood, etc. Also, Cooking with Liz (and Dave) is still by far my favorite thing she has ever done.  I'm hoping that will make a return eventually.  She has the cutest style but she also has great workouts, recipes, and other lifestyle content in addition to her style content.

I have been following Megan for about 6 years.  Back then she had a blog called Style Me Swanky but she has since started Holy City Chic.  I have been following along since she was planning her wedding and now she has two precious little kiddos.  It's fun to follow along as her family grows.  Megan is this pretty, bright and fun woman and she always put a smile on my face.  She is the epitome of a southern belle in my opinion.  Her interior design style is to die for and is so dreamy.  I always just want her to come and decorate my house after she posts pictures from her home.  Bonus she lives in Charleston so I always enjoy checking out where she's shopping, eating, etc.  (Also, recently realized that we will share a wedding anniversary date!)
