Greensky Bluegrass

For dad's birthday we got tickets for the family to see Greensky Bluegrass at Garfield Park the week after his birthday! It was a fun outing and the weather was perfect! It was our second MOKB concert in Indy in three days.  We saw Soccer Mommy at the Hi-Fi on Tuesday. That was a great show too. A lot of good music coming through Indy these days.

Bon Iver

Bon Iver at the Lawn at White River State Park
Last night we went to Indy for a concert with our friends Connie and Patrick.  We grabbed a quick dinner at Garden Table on Mass Ave before we went to the Lawn at White River State Park.  We were able to get through our meal right in time for a rain shower.  Things cleared up as we made our way to the venue.

I've listened to Bon Iver since a friend recommended For Emma, Forever Ago back when I was a sophomore in college but this was my first time seeing Justin Vernon and his band. I was so excited.  The skies looked a little iffy but I was optimistic it would be fine.  The band came out and performed a few songs before it started to lightly rain.  It slowly picked up to a harder rain and Wyatt and I took shelter under a tree and made a friend.  After another song or two the rain stopped and we returned to our spots with Connie and Patrick.  They played a few more songs and then took a set break.  During the break the skies seemed to clear up some but right as they came back it started to get windy and in the first song it started raining again.  This time in their was some lightning so after the second song of the second set the venue was evacuated for about half an hour.  Ironically, there wasn't really any more lightning after the band stopped and we evacuated.  We hungout and went back in when they gave the all clear.  The band came out and finished up a great set! The sky above us even cleared up throughout the rest of the set! The band was so good.

Wilco

On Tuesday night we went down to Indy to go to Wilco with my sister.  We tried to have dinner at Burgerhaus before but they had a longer wait than we anticipated.  We also walked down the canal and tried to eat at Fresco but it was closed.  In the end we stopped in at Yats and had a quick dinner before the show.  We made our way over to White River State Park for the concert.  I love concerts at the Lawn.  I love being right downtown.

Wilco was great! I've seen them several times but hadn't seen them for a few years.  With storms and rain on and off throughout the day, we were worried we would have bad weather but we got lucky! We watched a lightning show off in the distance during the last portion of the concert and Wyatt and I drove home through some heavy rain but we managed to stay dry at the concert.

The Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-a-long Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Pageant on Ice

I had Friday off from work thanks to some handy vacation time.  I began my day by stopping in Bloomington on the way to Indianapolis.  I got to stop by campus just long enough for a photo opp. and made a quick stop at TIS before traveling up 37 to Indy.

Allison and I did some Christmas shopping during the day.  She took me to Irvington, my first time, and we shopped at a cute little store before eating pizza at Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza.  I highly recommend the Slaughter House Five pizza. It was delicious.  After Irvington, we headed to the north side to do some more shopping.  We grabbed a quick dinner after shopping and then headed over to the Murat for the concert.

It was an excellent show.  He played several of his own Christmas songs along with a few traditional hymns sprinkled here and there. Then it was the audience's turn to sing-a-long to whatever song the "Wheel of Christmas" landed on.  After a couple of songs, he played some more of his Christmas stuff, a couple of hymns, and one of his regular songs.  They ended the regular set with a twelve or so minute song, Christmas Unicorn, complete with costume, confetti, and balloons in the crowd.  For the encore, he performed four acoustic songs off his album, "Illinoise," and ended with the song "Chicago".  I had so much fun!

After the concert Allison and I went to the Circle to see the lights since I'd not ever been there during the Holidays.  It's even prettier in person.

Happy Holidays,

you can find any reason for cupcakes...

but this was truly a worthy occasion.  We celebrated my parents' 34th anniversary in Indy on Sunday.  We had an early dinner followed by cupcakes and champagne at my sister's before heading to My Morning Jacket at the Lawn at White River State Park.  I loved the white with the silver and gold.  Plain white iced and decorate cupcakes might be a new obsession...now I just need to get to a store that has a better sprinkles selection....or do some online ordering.
