Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness

I have mentioned before about how Andrew McMahon is my favorite musician.  I have been a fan of his since I was in junior high and have followed him through three different bands. I was not lucky enough to see Something Corporate before they broke up and didn't get to see Jack's Mannequin until I was well into college.  Andrew battled leukemia when I was in high school and my love for him as a musician grew into love and admiration for him as a human being.  He started the Dear Jack Foundation.  An organization that provides programming that directly benefits adolescents and young adults with cancer.  The goal is to improve their quality  of life and create positive health outcomes from treatment to survivorship for the patients and their families.  Because of his journey and his Foundation, I got swabbed and am now on the bone marrow donor registry.  (It's easy, just got to DKMS.org to request a swab kit!) I have been trying to see Andrew more often when he's around and this year I hit the jackpot! On December 5th we went to see him at the Bluebird in Bloomington! When I was at IU I was on the Union Board Concerts Committee and I probably suggest Jack's Mannequin every meeting so I was thrilled to finally get to see Andrew in Bloomington!

I had so much fun! I am fortunate enough to have seen him three other times this year (Indianapolis, Hangout Festival, and Grand Rapids).  He played Something Corporate's "She Paints Me Blue" which is from my favorite album and he rarely plays it...so I was ecstatic! I even finally got to dance with him under the parachute! He also played Jack's Mannequin's "I'm Ready" on a whim when a member of the audience yelled it out! It was the best way to end a year of epic concerts!

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness!

We may be just a bit crazy but we did it and we survived! Wyatt used one of his ticket vouchers to get us tickets to see my favorite, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness in Grand Rapids last week. I mean, how sweet can he be?! I've already dragged Wyatt to see Andrew twice this year in Indianapolis and at Hangout Festival but he used his voucher for me and drove me allllll the way to Grand Rapids on a work night.  We knew there were a couple of openers so it allowed us a little time after work to get ready and hit the road.  We made it to venue and only missed the first couple of songs.  Once again, I had the best time.  This Zombies in America Tour has been so fun!

When I saw Andrew McMahon was playing a show in Indy on his current tour, I knew we had to go!  He's been my favorite artist since junior high. He is going to be at Hangout Festival in May but I didn't want to risk not being able to see him then.  His new album, Zombies On Broadway, is so good.  I just want to sing and dance when I listen to it.  It puts me in such a good mood.   We spent the day in Indy with my family.  After dinner we made our way over to the Egyptian Room at the Old National Centre.  We missed the first opener and caught about half of the second opener.  I was able to run into an old friend that I hadn't seen in about 5 years just before Andrew's set.   His set was one of the most fun I've seen.  I was signing and dancing and having an all around great time.  I am normally not one to sing and dance quite so much at shows but I just can't help it with Andrew!

As seen in the pictures above, Andrew has a giant inflatable duck that he gets in and rides around the crowd.  He went over me twice.  I much prefer the inflatable objects to just people crowd surfing! He also sent his giant rainbow parachute out in the crowd and it was so fun to dance to Synesthesia under it!
